Thanks for attending the 2014 Air Show!
Despite periodic rain showers the Virginia Air Show and USO Show were successfully completed
We would like to extend a special thanks to all the performers and to our sponsors for making these events the success they were again this year.
Air show performers like Bill Finigan who thrilled the audience with two aerobatic flights in his bright red Pitts Special, Jana Leigh McWharter with her exciting wing walking demonstration, Mike and his P-51D "Double Trouble" (I love watching that plane fly), Hobby Hangar with an R/C extravaganza from a scale F-104, to a P-40 and A-10, the Skyline Soaring Club with multiple glider flights, the gyro copters, twin engine Cessna, and so much more. A big hit with the kids this year was complimentary face painting that had a line from 11 am - 5 pm!
The USO Show and Dance on a cool rain free night saw county supervisors retired mayors and an enthusiastic crowd dancing to Jump Alley, watching Hub City perform and taking advantage of nearly $1,100 of door prizes donated by local merchants. (PS will the lady who won the picture frame collection from Staples please contact me at (703) 963-4064).
Our primary sponsor (The Mid Atlantic FORD Dealers) displayed several beautiful vehicles and helped us get the P-51D Mustang to be photographed by a number of Mustang car enthusiasts on the 50th anniversary of the cars introduction, State Farm who gave away over 250 balsa wood airplanes complete with insurance policies, Allison James Estates & Homes who provided treats and countless hours in support of the show, and Quarles and Phillips 66 for fuel supplies.
We would also like to thank the host of volunteers without whom this event would not have been possible and remind them that we have a volunteer and sponsor appreciation luncheon scheduled for September 27th at the airport starting at 11 am.
From the beginning in 2008, the Virginia Air Show has worked to remember 9/11, promote aviation. and support our military veterans and those still serving. We are also continuing to support the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) program.Located in the Shenandoah Valley the airport features picturesque 360 degree mountain views and easy access to nearby Front Royal, route 66, route 81, route 340/522 and many area attractions.
